Built in steel (to Lloyds 100A1) by Dutch yard Hakvoort, Savvy was delivered in 2004, combining the tranquillity of a lovely river barge with the facilities of a fine motor yacht.

I first visited the Savvy in September 2016 and immediately saw the potential for me to enjoy a period of an alternative style of yachting. Having enjoyed cruising in most corners of the globe on board a wide variety of yachts, I could see just how Savvy could work for me. My broker, Peter Insull, knows my style of yachting and indeed many of the yachts that I have owned over many years. Peter rightly guessed that I would appreciate the many qualities of Savvy.

Savvy was built in 2004 for an English gentleman whose knowledge of yachts, big and small, was extensive. He had built his first barge in the U.K. and then went about developing his perfect yacht barge, drawing on the experience of building the first along with the extensive cruising he had enjoyed. The designers were given the perfect dimensions to allow the maximum range of waterways to navigate throughout Europe, including Great Britain. The Canal du Midi was a benchmark as to successful cruising, where the dimensions of length, beam and height can be critical.

So as to ensure the very highest standards, the respected family-owned Dutch yacht builders, Hakvoort, were chosen as overall contractors. The talented English yacht designers H2 Design and Naval Architects, Vripack (Holland), were commissioned to bring the Owner’s vision to reality. The finished yacht was a testimony to all those parties included in the Owner’s team and contractors.

Once I had made my decision to take ownership of the then Tigre d’Or, we moved quickly so as to start the 2017 season by Easter. Since then, along with my family, we have enjoyed cruising through Holland, Belgium, France and finally my last cruise, in Germany. I have spent in excess of sixty days aboard. Unlike most yachts you can enjoy her all year ! The countryside and villages all summer and cities in the depths of winter: Paris, Amsterdam, Brugge, Basle, Vienna, etc. etc. She can navigate the Thames as far as Oxford and would always make a perfect floating pied-à-terre in many European cities.

Savvy is the most luxurious, stylish and well-equipped yacht that I have ever owned. This yacht is totally unique and I am unaware of anything comparable at all. She certainly turns lots of heads. Her level of luxury is delightful and, as she has diesel electric power, can be driven in a silent fashion with almost no vibrations. The independent crew quarters are exceptional.

With a replacement cost, quoted by Hakvoort, of EUR 10M; Savvy is certainly exceptional value at today’s price of GB£ 2.5M.

Unlike most yachts in the Mediterranean or the U.S.A., she is inexpensive to operate. Savvy is very economical for fuel costs, and dockage within the canals and rivers is very cheap.

Savvy, since new, has had very low (3200) hours of useage and has been properly maintained by it’s two owners.

I employed an experienced Dutch yacht captain who is also very familiar with all of the suitable cruising areas. He carries out the engineer’s role and is supported by a deckhand/ stewardess. We do not employ a full time chef, so when we feel we want posh food, we simply bring along a chef for specific cruises.

I will deliver Savvy to any new Owner in exemplary condition.
